Junior Country Championships - 2024
2024 Junior Country Championships will take place on;
Saturday 18th May & Sunday 19th May, 2024.
The venues utilised will be as follows:
- Essendon Hockey Centre – Under 14 Boys & Girls
- Greensborough Hockey Centre – Under 16 Boys & Girls
- Melbourne Sports Centres Parkville – Under 18 Boys & Girls
In 2024, the age groups for the Event will also change to Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18. This will ensure they align with the age groups for Hockey Australia National Championship, the Victorian Junior State Championships and the vast majority of local competition age groups across Victoria. This change was supported by the clear majority of JCC Coordinators and was flagged 12 months ago.
What are the Junior Country Championships (JCC)?
Sunraysia Hockey Association aims to send 6 teams (Age groups will be U14, U16, U18 Girls and Boys) to the Junior Country Championships (JCC) held in Melbourne in May 17th-19th 2024. Teams leave Mildura by bus at 4.30pm on Friday 17 May and return late on Sunday 19 May. Training will be held on Sundays and/or Wednesdays. We are looking for nominations from each Club to represent Sunraysia. Training sessions for JCC (Melbourne) will begin in March once coaches have been appointed. There will also be an information session held for parents and guardians to explain JCC to any new comers. The anticipated cost is yet to be determined but is expected to be $300- $350, (we are currently seeking donations and sponsorship to reduce the costs further). All players are expected to travel with the teams, and stay in the team accommodation at Urban Camp (located next to the State Hockey Center). There will be limited places for parents, so first in will get a place. Sunraysia Hockey Association requires an accurate idea of the number of players available in order to ensure that realistic entries can be submitted for the championships. Teams will be selected on the basis of attendance at training, and performance at training and in weekly inter-club matches, where applicable.
