History

The Sunraysia Hockey Association (SHA) originally started out as the Sunraysia District Women’s Hockey Association (SDWHA) in 1953. 

The following timeline provides a summary of its history:

1953

Sunraysia District Women’s Hockey Association (SDWHA) was formed with 5 school-based teams playing on the Mildura High School ovals

1956

The Indian Women visited Mildura and other regional locations in Australia, playing against local representative teams to promote women’s participation in hockey.

1962

Some senior games were played at Mansell Reserve, although junior remained at Mildura High School Oval until the 1980’s

1988

The SDWHA became an incorporated body 

1989

The SDWHA was moved to the Old Aerodrome Ovals

1991

The SDWHA, in partnership with Mildura West Cricket Club, relocated and renovated the old building which had previously been used by the soccer association and developed shared facilities.

1993

The SDWHA became the Sunraysia Hockey Association (SHA) to accommodate the increased number of boys playing and the introduction of a men’s competition.

1993

Lights were installed on the grass hockey pitch

2007

SHA moved to the new artificial turf facility and clubrooms at Old Aerodrome Ovals
